L'histoire de Tunchi

C'est l'histoire du Tunchi. Il n'était pas une personne. Il n'a jamais pensé à faire des bonnes choses, seulement des choses mauvaises. Il a passé sa vie desséchant des arbres. Il a simplement dit "vous allez dessécher cet arbre», ansi qu'il a fait. Il soufflait si fort que l'arbre se desséchait. En seulement quelques minutes, il pouvait dessécher un arbre. Les gens voulaient savoir s'il a fait tout ce que les enfants ou quelqu'un lui a demandé de faire et donc ils venaient près de lui. Cependant, le plus vieux membre de la communauté, qui connaissait l'importance des arbres pour tous eux, lui a dit que ce qu'il faisait était mal et lui a demandé de ne pas le faire car cela pouvait produire des mauvaises choses.

Puis il a répondu qu'il n'était pas celui qui le faisait, c´était Tunchi, Tunchi le fort que personne ne pouvait dominer, et il a ajouté que Tunchi était un homme. Les gens ont commencé à avoir peur de lui, car ainsi qu´il a commencé à dessécher des arbres, il a également commencé à dessécher les gens. Il est dit qu'il disait: «Je vais faire sécher cette personne", et puis il la faisait sauter pendant quelques minutes jusqu'à ce que cette personne restait immobile. Les gens disaient que le Tunchi simplement vivait pour la méchanceté.

Ayant séché des nombreux arbres, le peuple a rencontré les personnes les plus âgées pour savoir comment l'arrêter, parce que l'ombre était très rare dans les chemins et les sources d'eau qui entourait la communauté aussi. Les nuits étaient éternelles pendant que les plus âgés sont allés à travers leurs souvenirs et se sont rappelés de ce que leurs grands-parents, arrières grands-parents et leurs ancêtres leur avait enseigné. Après plusieurs nuits de réflexion, le plus ancien membre du groupe, Manu, a dit au reste que la mémoire de ses ancêtres lui avaient dit ce qu'ils pouvaient faire.

Tout le monde a travaillé sur le plan du grand-père Manu, qui consistait à faire un immense arbre qui couvrait l'ensemble du territoire. Au fur et à mesure qu´ils le faisaient, ils le remplissaient avec beaucoup de pierres. Lorsque l'arbre était prêt, Tunchi a été défié. Dans ce moment-là, il leur a demandé s´il devait dessécher ou couper l'arbre. Pour montrer qu'il pouvait tenir sa parole, il prit une hache et a commencé à travailler. Toutefois, ces personnes avaient non seulement rempli le coffre avec de grosses pierres, ils ont également récité une prière au grand arbre. Tunchi, qui n'a pas abandonné, a travaillé jusqu'à créer un trou dans le tronc, et puis il y monta dans la coupe et il a continué en coupant le grand arbre avec sa hache jusqu'à le faire tomber. De l'arbre tombé un liquide rouge a commencé à verser. Le liquide est devenu un fleuve de sang rouge et Tunchi a eu une toux sévère. Il toussait et toussait plusieurs fois. Les gens chuchotaient tant que les arbres avaient été desséchés, il allait être desséché aussi. Quand Tunchi ne pouvait pas arrêter la toux, il a commencé à perdre son poids et son corps asséché parce que la toux ne lui laissait pas boire ou manger. Chaque fois qu'il avait quelque chose à manger ou à boire, il le ramenait en place. La même chose lui est arrivée et les arbres, ils ont tous les deux commencé à se dessécher. Quand il s´est vu, il a commencé à donner des conseils et a demandé aux gens de ne jamais dessécher ou abattre des arbres parce que depuis ce qui est arrivé à lui, il pouvait aussi leur arriver, et mourir desséchés comme les arbres qu'il avait soufflé. Quand il n'avait rien à dire, on dit qu'il a pleuré et leur a donné quelques bons conseils. Il a dit aux enfants qu'ils devaient obéir aux paroles de leurs ancêtres et d'apprendre que les arbres larges et anciens sont intouchables, et ils doivent être respectés. Il leur a aussi demandé de pousser plus d'arbres au lieu de les élaguer. Enfin, il a rappelé aux gens que c'était parce qu'il n'avait pas entendu la voix de ses ancêtres qu'il allait mourir comme ça. Et on dit qu'il s´est desséché comme il avait desséché beaucoup d'arbres.

The story of Tunchi

This is the story of Tunchi. He was not a person. He never thought about doing anything good, only bad things. He spent his life drying out trees. He was simply told “you are going dry out this tree”, so he did. He would blow hard and that tree would dry out. In just a few minutes he could dry a tree. People wanted to know if he did whatever children or anyone asked him to do and so they approached him. However, the oldest members of the community, who knew the importance of the trees for everyone, said to him that what he did was wrong and asked him not to do it because then it could damage him. 

Then he answered that he was not the one doing it, it was Tunchi, the strong Tunchi who no one could dominate, and he added that Tunchi was a man. People began to be afraid of him because in addition to drying out trees he also began to dry out people. It is said that he would say: “I´m going to dry out this person”, and then he would blow until that person would dry out and stand still for a few minutes. People said the Tunchi just lived for wickedness

He dried out so many trees that the people met with the oldest people to find out how to stop him, because shade was becoming scarce, the water springs which surrounded the community were drying up. The nights were everlasting while the oldest people went through their memories and remembered what their grandparents, great grandparents and their ancestors had taught them. After many nights of thinking, the oldest member of the group, Manu, told the rest that his ancestor´s memory had told him what they could do. 

Everybody worked on the grandfather Manu´s plan, which was to make a huge tree which covered the whole territory. As they were doing it they filled it with a lot of stones. When the tree was ready, Tunchi could be challenged. At the moment of seeing it, he asked if dried or cut down the tree. To show that he could keep his word, he took an axe and started to work. However, those people hadn´t only filled the trunk with big stones, they had also recited a prayer to the big tree. Tunchi, who didn´t give up, worked until he managed to create a hole in the trunk, which he climbed into and continued cutting the big tree with his axe until the it fell down.

From the fallen tree a red liquid started to pour out. The liquid became a blood-red river and Tunchi got a severe cough. He coughed and coughed many times. People whispered that as the trees were drying out he was going to get dry out as well. Since Tunchi couldn’t stop coughing, he began to lose weight and his body dried up because the cough didn´t let him drink or eat. Whenever he had something to eat or drink he brought it back up. The same thing happened to him and the trees, they both started drying out. When he saw himself, he began to give advice and asked the people to never dry or cut down trees because since it had happened to him, it could also happen to them, to die dried out like the trees that he had blown on. When he didn´t have anything to say, it is said that he cried and gave them some good advice. He said to the children that they had to obey the words of their ancestors and learn that wide and ancient trees are untouchable, and they must be respected. He also asked them to grow more trees instead of cutting them down. Lastly, he reminded the people that it was because he didn´t hear his elders voices that he was dying like that. Ít is also said that he dried out just like he had dried out many trees.
